I got home from work today and noticed the Turtles external filter wasn't working! It's an Eheim Ecco Pro 2234 that I got with the set up. I don't know how old it is, all I know are the turtles are approx 1yr old when I got them. Anyway I digest...

I had cleaned it all out yesterday and put in new filter pads & substrat (as still had the ones in there that came with it). As usual yesterday it took forever to prime (its a bloody nightmare to do) but usually once its up and running its a great filter. This morning as I was going out to work I noticed it making 'whooshing' noises every now and then, but didn't have time to sort it, when I got home, there was no water coming out the outlet flow pipe!!!

But don't worry.... the bad luck doesn't end there!!!!!

I tried for hours to prime the filter but it wasn't haven't any of it! So out of frustration I decided to go and buy another one!!! So after ringing around trying to find someone with one in stock, I jumped in the car and just made it to the shop in time. Bought a new filter, rushed back home, took it out the box and.........

THE FRIGGIN CASING WAS BROKEN!!!!!!!!!

It's obviously been dropped at some point and one corner of the plastic casing was broke at the bottom and coming away from the main unit!!! After some 'umping' & 'arrrring' and after close inspection , I decided as it was cosmetic and didn't affect the working of the filter I would just put some tape round it and carry on... (bear in mind my main concern was that the Turts had no filter!) but, on taking of the filter head I can hear something rattling about! No, clearly this might be normal, but as it had clearly been dropped I've decided not to risk it as once I've set it up theres no taking it back. So back in the box it's gone with the hope that I can sneak out tomorrow lunch time and try and get a replacement one...

BUT........

That does mean that the Turts are gonna go just over 24hrs without filtration!!! Will they be ok??? I have got an airstone in there to keep the water moving (and it was changed/cleaned out yesterday)... I won't be able to set up new filter till I get home tomorrow (about 6pm ish)

Is there anything I can do in the meantime?

They'll be fine without filtration Dawn. If you can't get it sorted for a few days just do a 50% water change.

How stressful for you Thank goodness turtles can go a while without filtration unlike fish.Its like having two more babies,hope it gets sorted soon xxxxx

Thanks Jackie, I rang them today and will go and exchange the filter tomorrow.... bloody pain!
