Ok, I know it's not even been 24 hours but....

I have just observed Betty & Borris 'fighting'... :( Is it just playing? Is it proper fighting?

I'm not 100% sure on their sexes, I was told they were a male & female, but I am aware (well have read) that you can't really sex them at this age? I was told they are 1yr old? There is quite a size difference between them though... not sure if this is normal?

God I hope it's just playful banter cos I've already fallen head over heels :(

PS not sure if it makes a difference but they have only been like this since I turned of their UV.. I am aware that they are more active at night..

Hi Dawn,

You've really got to watch this. These little turtles can do serious damage, even kill, each other. Theres a bit of a size difference between the two. I'm afraid the rules for tortoises apply doubly for turtkes, you've got to be prepared to house them seperatly. I'ce recently had a three stripe mud turtle bite a lump out of her two tank mates within 24 hours of each other. After living together from hatchlings. These turtles have powerful jaws and can be terratorial. They do squabble but they dont play fight.

Thanks Dave, I haven't seen them do it since, like I say I didn't see properly what was going on cos as soon as I went to the tank they ran and hid!!!  They seem quite happy together but I will watch them and if need be I will have to find a new home for one of them as I haven't room for another tank set up :( so keeping everything crossed that they get on! Are the girls territoral as well? The bigger one (that looks like its been powerfed :( ) is almost def a girl looking at her tail - shes about 4", whereas the smaller one is about 2.5" yet apparently they are both about a year?????
