Initially when I first ogt Ammy and he was in his table a lot, I chopped his food for him and fed him on a nice clean dish. Then I was advised to give him whole food stuff so he could chew lots and have to use his front legs to hold it down etc.

This has worked out ok except for the fact that if he gets whole leaves he cherry pics the bits he wants and leaves what he doesnt fancy - this generally involves him eating the leaves and ignoring the grass, making me worry that he isnt getting enough variety and fibre.

So now I chop his dinner and make him a salad a couple of times a week - this has his nutrabol on. The rest of the time he has whole food stuffs or no tea at all if he has been outside cos he eats like a pig outside!

Does this sound ok to you lot?

Tia x

i chop always have always will.it works for me.i have no issues with overgrown beaks and my tortoise legs are very well developed.i find they are less inclined to get away with picking out their favourites.i know initially they go for specific items and colours but when its chopped up not being dainty eaters they seem to get a bit of everything with most bites.

Thanks for the reply terry - Im leaning towards chopping on experience and trail and error findings tbh. Just I dont have enough experience with Ammy (5 whole months now!) to discount other peoples advice.

He does lots of stomping about and climbing for his legs and chews on alsorts for his beak so Im feeling that chopping is the way to go for me and him. I guess time will be the real test.
