As you all know, Tilly put herself into hibernation almost 2 weeks ago. She is in her outdoor shed, under her half terracotta pot. She hasn't dug right down, she is still almost still on top.

My concern is that the temperature when I get home from work has been around 18 degrees these last few days. I know it drops at night, but will Tilly be ok staying asleep with the temperature being higher than the recommended hibernation temperature? She actually went under her pot while her heat lamp was on, so I know she had made her mind up. I have gently touched her leg and she pulls it back into her shell. So I know she is ok at the moment.

I wondered about this cos I have two that had dug down into the pit & are fully covered, but cos the other 6 are currently still awake I have to leave the heat lamp on, So would also love to know the answer.... all I can say is I was in same position last year and they were all ok? (Not that it makes it right I know  )

And I am sure Tilly did the same last year too Dawn.

But I have been thinking about the toxins in their bodies. I know if we control wind down, we make sure they are empty. But when they have done it themselves you are uncertain as to what may still be inside them.

She sounds as though she is well into hibernation mode, and extra heat wont make too much difference. Some of mine are doing exactly the same.
They still know its time to stop eating:0)

Of the 6 of mine that are still awake, only 1 or 2 of them are actually eating, the others have all slowed right down. Funny thing is when I look back at their records they are all more or less mirroring what they did last year..... how clever are they! :D
