Well I have been winding Tom and Tiny down in their shed for the last four weeks. They have had no heat or light for the past 5 days. But because of the temperatures outside, they are refusing to slow down. I keep thinking they are asleep and when I go in to them, they are wide awake and wandering around. Even yesterday the temps in their shed went down to 7 degrees, so I popped them in a plastic box I have ready for them, in their shed. the temp inside the box was also 7 degrees. However, by mid morning they were awake and climbing over each other to get out. So I put them back on the floor of their shed, as I was worried that they would tip over on their backs. I am concerned that the longer they stay awake the more weight they will lose. But I don't know what to do to get the temperatures any lower, so that they become inactive.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Gail

Gail, I know how you feel :(

Mine self hibernated, and since they've been asleep the temps in their house has not fallen below 10 let alone 5 degrees!!!! I'm not sure if this is gonna cause them any harm or not?? They are fast asleep and haven't moved at all, so am assuming they know what they are doing???

What the hell are we meant to do?????????

Before anyone suggests it - there is NO-WAY I can fit 8 large tortoises in my fridge!!!!

Tilly's shed is showing 11 degrees, but she is still asleep and I think she has dug herself in a little deeper. But I would have thought that at 7 degrees the boys would stay asleep, but they just keep waking up and wandering around in the dark.

I have worked out their hiberhation weights using the other guide and they are now both showing as slightly underweight for hibernation. If they don't sleep soon they will lose even more weight. I only have our family fridge so puttiing them in there is out of the question.

That makes 3 of us!!!
Zoom has done the same as last year - gone in his box, closed his eyes said goodnight.
Ben 10 has also done the same as last year - gone in his box, looked at me and said 'you must be joking' :(
Their insulated house has not fallen below 10c over the past 2 weeks and I am now at a loss as to what to do!!!
The boys have not eaten for 6 weeks (bathed every other day until I boxed them up - nearly 2 weeks ago) but - should I carry on with Ben 10's baths or just leave him and hope he settles?
Grrrr, British weather.

Just watching this weeks weather and it looks as though the temps are gonna drop this week so bear with it... hopefully (for the torts sake) they will, just enough to settle our little ones mind! ;)
