Anyone revamping their enclosure this year? If so, what are you planning on doing to it?

Overall I'm happy with mine, and I think the fact that my torts seem settled and laid their first clutches last year proves this. I am going to build a new nesting area - I had to rig something up quick last year and just used a deep tray filled with soil and a cheap cold frame over it. This year I want to get a wooden cold frame (which I must do soon before the prices go back up!) and again I will fill it with soil, I may even (if I can muster up the energy!) dig a big hole and sink the deep tray into the ground and then put the cold frame over this. The other option is to lift the cold frame up of the floor using bricks and chuck some soil in, but I think in order to give the girls depth to dig the first option would be better.....

I also want to put a hatchling section out there...god knows where!!!!!

Share your ideas and better still, pictures with us, inspire others with your enclosure..

I now only revamp my enclosures when the plants in them get too big. Otherwise its too much work:0)
I usually do tidy them up a bit before the tortoises get up. Getting rid of any weeds they dont eat, so the dont spread too much around the garden. I also dig the soil over too. These enclosures are occupied by boxies or juveniles, so are not yet into the egg laying bit.
My adults dont do laying eggs in places I have sorted out for them. So I now dont bother, as they like to choose their own places to lay. As you know at least two like to dig in the lawn. A couple will lay in the GH, but the other two change where they lay all the time.

We took some a large conifer hedge out that were 3/4 of the length of the garden, and put a new fence up late summer, which means we gained a couple of feet in the width. More garden for the tortoises :)
While doing that I added some new shrubs .
That reminds me I need to get some log roll. Lol.
I was going to move my little ones enclosure, but Im happy with the amount of sun it gets and if I move it nearer the fence , I think they will lose out. So I've saved myself a job!

Also last year my hubby made a potting shed for our son, he's 10.he designed it and built it from scratch.
We also put up a six foot high fence inbetween ours and our neighbours driveway and six foot high double gates.

So year year think I'm not going to do too much .

Last year I started to think about developing an area where my babes can live and hibernate outside. Being built at the moment is a outdoor home to be placed over a hibernation pit. I have already a Victorian cloch for the greenhouse effect and numerous scattered hides ready to be placed. X x x hugs x x

Will certainly do that. Getting my gardener to dig a three feet deep hole which is one and a half metres by half a metre... Lined with breeze blocks and then the soil put back. I have asked a joiner to make a house the same floor dimentions with insulation and greenhouse extension. This will not have a floor as it will be placed over the pit.. Cables under the soil to the outdoor power supply and hopefully that is the hard part done. The whole area will be 'fenced' off with railway sleepers which in turn will double up as seating areas. The garden area has been a rockery so plenty of up and down activity. So looking forward to this project. Another thing I am including is a burglar alarm system on the tort house. Also having silly fence panelling I am looking at having those pinned down so they cannot be lifted from outside the garden x. Will post pictures of the project as it develops x x hugs. X

Tort Lodge arrived last Monday, :D so the outdoor development happens in the garage for the time being. Unfortunately the words 'Dig the pit when you can, there is plenty of time' seems not to have been a good idea to say to my gardener as he has now broken his wrist and digging is far from his mind  . Lights and fittings have been ordered this weekend and the inside of Tort Lodge has been waterproofed. I feel there is progress. Cant wait to get it together and see it in its full Lodge status x x x hugs x x

Tort lodge is looking good.
Digging outside at the moment is out here too, as its too cold:0) Sun is shinning but the wind is very cold.
Some of my enclosures need a big tidy up. Waiting until its a bit warmer:0)
