Thought I would share the pics of my maps out in the sun.
Maps are exceptionally shy and it is rare to see them out as they dive back into the water the minute they become aware of any movement. But I grabbed the chance to photograph them with the zoom from the bedroom window. There is a 4th little map (peanut), but to see all 4 out together would be a miracle  :o . The large female is called Martha,(False map) I have not had her very long and the poor thing has never basked. I had been dry docking her and these pics are the very first time that I have seen her out of her own accord...so I am well chuffed :D . The others are cookie and fudge.

such a shame they are so shy Ruth.it must be wonderfull to see them basking as nature intended.i suppose it a nice feeling for you to know they actually feel secure enough in their enclosure to do this when they think your not looking.your setups are always natural looking,i think i would have a bask myself if i lived in one of them  .thanks for sharing this moment with us Ruth.

Wow fantastic! Thank you for sharing your Maps with us! As Terry said it is credit to your husbandry that they feel comfortable enough to bask out in the open :D

But can I say, please Do NOT invite Terry to yours 'cos the thought of him having a bask just feels my head with all kinds of imagines that you just don't wanna be seeing!!!! :o

   Your post made me smile as yes I suppose they are funny looking, I have to admit that I was shocked when I first met Martha as I hadn't seen a large map before, and her back legs do look enormous when spread out like that.
I am adding another picture that you may like. This is of Martha when I put her into an enclosure to get the sun on her.....they are very, very good and very quick climbers, she was at the top of the post like a shot :o .
