Defrost it Dawn. Put a cube in a cup, add a little boiling water, let it sit til the water cools then chuck it in the tank.

cheers Dave, the previous owners told me to just chuck frozen cubes of food in there? Thought I'd better check ;)

Another question......

Did I read that you don't heat your turtles water?

I know a lot of keepers do throw in frozen food but the way I see it turtles will swallow whole anything that fits down their throats and the food isn't instantly defrosted all the way through when it hits the water.

Whether or not I heat the turtles water depends on age and species really. They are in a warm room anyway, the water is normally around 20-21C. My Maps like it a little warmer so I heat their water.I did the same when the muds were very young, about 25C. I actually like the idea of a drop of temperature overnight, as per tortoises, which you don't get with a preset water heater. I also let the room get colder in winter so they get seasons ( I'm actually hibernating some turtles for the first time this year too) and I like to get them outside when its warm enough so they're used to day/night temperature differences.
