This morning Thumbelina was doing this weird thing where she put her head in her shell and then was trying to go to the toilet :o
Straight away I gacve her a warm bath and then out in the sunshine,I offered her cucumber and ramaine lettuce and melon as I thought she could do with some more watery food
It took her ages to go to the toilet, had to give her a second warm bath
She seems a bit unhappy, what else can I do?
Thanks

it sounds like you are keeping her well hydrated Jackie.my first thoughts were has she been fed pellets, but i didnt think you used them.it has to be diet though if she isnt dehydrated and she will need a very high fibre one to keep her going regular.i assume she passed normal but hard stools and not any sort of stone.this time of year when the sun is beating down my leopards graze consists of mostly dry brown scrubby grasses and they have no supplimentary feeding whatsoever.this regime is for youngsters over 80mm.they havent had any supplementary feed for well over a month now and the adults for several months.

i dont think watery food is the answer Jackie.its normal to take water when its available but i think dry coarse grasses should make up the bulk of their diet.i dont keep or have any first hand experience of sulcata.i feel sure their diet is similar to what a leopard should have.i have turned some youngsters out this summer and they have had no supplementary feed for at least a month possibly 6 weeks.when you pick them up they struggle to escape and they feel really heavy in your hands.i am often back home early afternoon and to watch them eating brown dry grasses when there is longer lush stems and even dandelions close by never ceases to amaze me.their dropping are always dark and firm, and very much in evidence around the enclosure.i have several deep water bowls sunk into the pasture so they can put their head and neck right down under the water which is the way they appear to prefer drinking.
