Just a quickie.

Can a ceramic heater be controlled by a habistat dimmer thermostat?

Hi Gail, I have come across this question before, but cannot for the life of me remember exactly the advice, but i will try to find out for you. I use a black ceramic heater at night in the shed for the Leos, but I just use a timer as I now do for all the torts heating/lighting.

Yes it can - I think that what you are talking about is what we use.

ooooh Chris, what does that mean in lay man terms? I have been using it for about 3 weeks and all seems well. so does that mean I have enough watts or whatever I need?? I can feel a little panic rising.

The current Habistat  Dimmers will work with a load between 40- 600w,  I don't think you can get ceramic heaters above 250w.
In theory you could connect four 150w ceramic heaters up to it, that would then take it up too its full load of 600w.
(it should say the maximum load on the front of your Dimmer)

Dimmers are fine with any normal heater or conventional incandescent light bulb. Of course you can not use them with a Mercury Vapour lamp.

I would say the Habistat Pulse proportional thermostats are a little more Hi-Tech for your money, you can use these with any basic heater, but unfortunately not with lights or IR heat lamps.
