I have been asked recently if Cola was a "dwarf Hermanni"?? I didn't know the answer and it has made me question what species she actually is.. On her cert it states hermann Hermanni, but how do they know? Her original cert was in German..

She looks like a boetgerri to me? All the Herman species are listed as hermani hermani on the certs they never (or very rarely) list the sub species, so basically it just means a hermans breed.

you are right Dawn, Bruce has confirmed it for me.. just trying to work out how to pronounce it! Is it Botty-gree? or boat-gree? what would you say? xx

Firstly Jeanette, there is no such thing as a dwarf hermans:0) this is the name a certain notorious shop is selling them under. But if they are the smaller species they would be hermanni hermanni.
Some think that because on the certs it says tortoise speices is hermanni, they think its hermanni hermanni. But there is now at least four subspecies of hermans tortoise. And like graecas they all come under one name.

its pronounced 'bow-et-gerry' (bow as in ribbon or tie)

i have always pronounced boettgeri "bot-geri.bot like bottom and geri .ger like gerroff my foot and i like eye. bot-ger-i.
also i would agree Cola is Hermanni Boettgeri.

I used to pronounce it like you two did but kept getting corrected!! Ah well, suppose it depends on your accent
