can a torty's shell bleed?

I woke up this morning to find both my tortys with blood on their shells. It was a very very small amount and on giving them both a good look over and a look in their mouths i cant find any cuts or marks on them anywhere.

They share the same hide and tend to climb over each other while they are in it.

The blood was on the line were the Pleural meets the Marginals. Could a claw while climbing over each other and caused this? as i cant see any marks on either of them.

I see they are horsfields, it might well be that they have been fighting.
I personally have not see a tortoises shell bleed, unless it goes right through. You would then see damage to the shell.

I don't no if they are old enough to breed they hatched in April 2009 and as far as i can tell i have a male and a female.

I cant see any damage on either of them, just blood...... its a mystery!

Hello
my male horsefield drew blood on the shell of my female horsefield Becky about a year ago and i had to put some iodine on and it healed very quickly.

well i gave it another good clean today and looked very very close and it seems that a small slither of shell has come off (been pulled off by beak or claw?) But its not very deep but no more bleeding.

The blood has seemed to have gone under the shell now though so i cant wash it off but its still red.

Either way the tortys seem happy so it cant be that bad.
